Mary Katherine Brown, Appalachian artist, was in Rocky Fork, Tennessee, part of the beautiful Appalachian mountains of upper East Tennessee located in Unicoi County. Therein lies most of her subjects. She studied art under the Master Painter, Urban Bird who is still her mentor. Other teachers includes Barbara Jennigan, Jean Corbett and oil portrait classes with Fay Hyatt.
Her mediums are oil, watercolor and acrylic. The subjects she paints include landscapes, waterscapes, still life and portraits. She is a member of the Watauga Valley Art League and Jonesborough Fine Art.
