Mary Katherine Brown is an Appalachian artist that was born in in Rocky Fork, which is part of the beautiful Appalachian mountains of upper East Tennessee located in Unicoi County. She now resides in Erwin, TN, and herein lies most of her subjects. She studied art under the Master Painter Urban Bird who continued to mentor her in the arts until his passing. Other teachers includes Barbara Jennigan, Jean Corbett, and oil portrait classes with Fay Hyatt.
Her mediums are oil, watercolor, and acrylic. The subjects she paints include landscapes, waterscapes, still life and portraits. She is a member of the Watauga Valley Art League, and The Tennessee Watercolor Society. In her spare time she assists the Seniors at the Clinchfield Senior Citizen Center in Erwin, with watercolor and acrylic classes.
