Gallery Rules & Regulations

                                                                               Tanasi Gallery Rules & Regulations

The Tanasi Gallery will feature various works by regional artists with emphasis on work that reflects the culture and traditions of the Appalachian region.  These works must be original and may be in the form of art, craft, literature, music, drama, and food.

  1. Regional makers wishing to display their original works for sale at the Tanasi Gallery must fill out and submit The Tanasi Gallery Artist/Crafter Application.
  2. Upon receipt of a completed application, a jury panel consisting of three people will review both the Artist/Crafter and their work.
  3. The jurying process must be completed before an artist's work can be exhibited in the Tanasi Gallery.
  4. The Tanasi Gallery reserves the right to refuse to display any piece submitted for sale that does not meet the gallery’s minimum standards of craftsmanship, or contains profanity, violence, or inappropriate imagery.
  5. Perishable items being sold in the Gallery must be clearly marked with an expiration date. It is the responsibility of the Artist/Crafter to remove and replace these items prior to the expiration date. Out of date items not removed in a timely manner will be taken off the shelf and disposed of to ensure the health and wellness of our patrons.
  6. Upon application approval, a $30 annual Gallery fee will be due by the Artist/Crafter to promote and display their work in the Gallery and in various promotions as determined by the Gallery. This fee is due each year upon contract renewal.
  7. Tanasi Gallery does not guarantee the artist's work will be positioned at one specific location in the Gallery within the year. Placement is at the discretion of the Gallery.
  8. Items for sale at the Tanasi Gallery are on CONSIGNMENT. Upon sale, the Artist/Crafter will receive 70% of the sale price and Tanasi Gallery will receive 30% of the sale price per item. Payments to the Artist/Crafter will be distributed by mid-month (of the following month) for amounts reaching $25.00 or greater. If cumulative sales are under $25.00, then the consigned balance will roll to the next month. If after three months, the total consigned sales are still under $25.00 then payment will be issued to the Artist/Crafter no matter the amount.
  9. As required by law, Tennessee sales tax will be added to all sales at a rate of 9.75%. Tanasi personnel/volunteers will be responsible for collecting sales tax and the Tanasi Board Treasurer will be responsible for all quarterly filings and payments of collected taxes to the State of TN Department of Revenue.
  10. As required by IRS Guidelines, a 1099 will be issued for sales of $2,000 or more within a calendar year. As such a W-9 must be submitted with each application and kept on file with Tanasi Arts & Heritage Center of Northeast Tennessee.
